(Photos by Charles Wickam) – The social media era has changed the way people eat through the proliferation of food trucks, it has changed the way people get around with services like Uber, and it is changing the way that people hang out with their cars as groups like Houston Car Cruise organize get togethers via Facebook and Twitter. Charles Wickam reports that Houston Car Cruise is growing by leaps and bounds and this coming weekend they’re going to have a big event at a place that can hold more than 1,000 cars. That’re pretty awesome and the other thing that’s pretty awesome is the sheer diversity of the cars showing up to the meets. Imports, laid out dually trucks, muscle cars, exotics, the full cross section of the car hobby all hanging out and enjoying each other’s company together.
The fact is that we live in divisive times. Just this week parts of the country have been plunged into senseless violence and destruction. At times it makes you questions a lot of things but then when you see stuff like this and think that there are more people who get it than don’t. There are more people who can see the common ground between them rather than the things that make them different. The people that showed up to his deal in Webster define that idea and it is cool to see. It sounds all Polly Anna but the whole point is that the car hobby is better when we’re all together. There are enough forces at work to restrict us that we’re a lot better off battling them as a united front.
Anyway, there’s some stuff in here that you’ll hate. There’s some stuff in here that you’ll love, and there’s some stuff in here you probably never knew existed before. That’s our kind of car show!
