(Photos by Charles Wickam) – The 2014 Space City Cruisers car show, sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts was a great success and helped out a couple of local charities. Charles Wickam was on the scene blasting photos with his camera, which was a good warm up for him because ol’ Charles and I will be at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas this weekend for the NHRA event. He’ll be shooting sweet photos and I’ll be angering and annoying the crowd with sub-par announcing. Practically a match made in heaven, right? Anyway, this show took place in scenic League Park and brought out a lot of neat cars for a great cause.

One of the coolest is the Plymouth station wagon with a late model hemi and the “billboard” style hemi call outs on the side of the car like you would have found on an early 1970s E-body Mopar. Seeing the wagon body itself is rare enough but we have never seen one done this nicely with the modern hemi, beautiful interior, and of course the really nice red paint. The billboard stripes are sure to raise debate among BangShifters but we dig them. Yes, it is a mixing of eras but the reality is that the car is a “what if” experiment anyway so why be concerned with staying in any sort of “lane” with regard to aesthetic choices. Charles reports that the show was a lot of fun and everyone was having a good time looking at the neat iron that rolled through the gate to raise money and goods for a local food pantry. Hot rodders helping the community is always a win/win.
