Roadside Find Gallery: Vintage Stock Cars and Ancient Doodlebug Tractors

(Photos by Jeremy George) – Today we’ve been showing you all kinds of high zoot, race car stuff in the galleries but this one is proof that there is still some damned awesome stuff living on the roadsides of America. BangShifter Jeremy George sent us this group of photos depicting the cool scene at “Mel’s Well Used Cars” in Franklin, New York. This interesting location has a killer grouping of vintage 1950s/1960s stock cars and a ton of neato “Doodlebug” tractors. Said machines are converted cars and truck that were made into defacto farm equipment. Mostly lost to history, this grouping of four wheel freaks had us smiling today!

Pay close attention to the photos of the old stock cars. These babies are truly the early evolutionary steps toward the advanced machines of the today. While their construction may appear to be crude and basic, these cars personify the days of creativity and outside the box thinking in circle track racing. Sure, they all looked mostly the same on the outside, but inside? It was wide open for innovation and free thought.

Thanks to Jeremy for the photos!

Great shots Jeremy. How did he find all this stuff? Most old stock cars got stripped of drivelines and crushed.

Lots of dirt and paved ovals around this area of upstate NY Greg, so old races cars hiding behind barns, garages and buildings is pretty common plus, none of the sheet metal was usable post race car for street rod use so I think it helped them survive.

      Thanks for sharing Brian!
