A few years back one of the BangShift forum members asked if we would create a new sub-section of our forums for guys who wanted to get involved in a fun, self-policed, friendly competition to see who can build the quickest project car for less than $5,000. The cool thing is that a whole bunch of guys have thrown their hat in the ring and the projects range for a late-ish model Chrysler LeBaron to classic 1960s iron like a Pontiac LeMans, there are Jeeps in there and the thing has gone away from being quickest to just building someone cool on the cheap.

Budget builds are certainly the name of the game these days with shows like Roadkill dominating the internet airwaves and lots of guys shying away from the big dollar stuff.  This “contest” is more about having a reason to wrench on, save, revive, and hot rod your junk as it is about being the quickest and fastest competitor. There have been more than a couple moribund projects brought back to life due to this contest.

The $5,000 budget means that you’ll need to your brain a whole bunch, but you’ll also have some leeway to buy good god fast stuff or throw some skin at a professional to help you in some respects of the project. Want to achieve ultimate BangShifty hero status? Be the quickest guy with the budget closest to zero as opposed to $5,000!
