I have a friend who is an insurance investigator and the stories that guy can tell border on the completely unbelievable but they are all true. People are idiots and this story proves that there are jerks beyond our own copious borders as these examples of insurance fraud failures all come from Canada. I am certainly not sitting here advocating for the insurance companies because they certainly don’t need my help but rather pointing out the sheer comedy that comes to light when you see these stories.

From drivers trying to convince the people that they smashed into the lie about the date of the accident so they can change their policy to people claiming that they were the victims of a hit and run when they were actually the runner themselves, you get the point. When I was working in the real world and overseeing trucks and drivers at a large company we would get calls weekly from people telling us that one of our guys had run into their car. Not all of them were fake because accidents do happen but at least 80% of them were people just looking for a pay off. Like the people who busted these lying jerks in the stories at the link, there was always a sense of satisfaction when you prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person is lying through their teeth and trying to screw you over.

More than once I heard guys who crashed their street cars at the drags saying that they were going to drop the thing on a corner in the middle of the night and claim that it was stolen and crashed. I’m not sure any of them ever had the guts (or the lack of sense) to do it but I often wondered how badly that whole thing would end. As the stories at the link prove, probably real bad and real expensive.
