Dabney Coleman plays Burt Simpson, a Seattle detective, learns that he has a disease that will kill him within two weeks, and that the only way his family receives any benefits is if he dies within the line of duty. He goes on a suicidal spree, trying to find a way to get killed at work. Sound like the perfect cliche of a movie? Of course it does. Short Time came out in 1990 and was running on the same principles that similar movies used since the early 1980’s and on the whole, is a movie worth avoiding. However, it’s got a gem of a car chase that is worth watching, between Simpson’s Dodge Diplomat/Plymouth Gran Fury (it changes a few times during the movie) and the bad guys’ mid-1970’s Pontiac Grand Ville. Taking place on the freeways of Seattle, it’s car-on-car combat that showcases the outright abuse that either car can take and then some. Remember, this is 1990…CGI isn’t involved at all, this is still pure hands-on stuntwork at it’s best.
It’s not a classic like Bullitt and it doesn’t have the outright speed of many other movies but it does have a certain campy charm to it. Take a look and let us know what you think below.
Liked it — some cool stuff there
Some cool Vancouver / New Westminster area shots as well , like you said stunt driving done with out cgi
Might not be a cult classic like some, but this one is so much funnier than most, and still so good ol’ action 🙂 love it!
The Mopar hands down. It took a lot more than the Pontiac.
When he said “can’t you idiots do anything right” he was talk about the Volkswagen. It killed an innocent Pontiac.
