New National Demolition Derby Series Launched, Already Dwindling Supply of Full Sized Cars Doomed

In news that we see as both good and bad, a new national demolition derby series called the “Demolition Cup” is set to take flight this summer. The good is that this series will create a national championship “crash off” to determine the baddest destructo driver in the land, the bad is that lots of cool, old, rear wheel drive cars are going to be killed in the process.

The Demolition Cup will consist of 35 demo derbies across the country which will then set up five regional finals and culminate in the season Demolition Cup Final. There will also be a national points system which will determine who is qualified to compete in the finals. So far there are more than $300,000 in cash and prizes lined up for competitors.

Other cool stuff? There will be a television series broadcast on cable television nationwide and there is already a list of top flite competitors who have committed to chase points in the series.

This is pretty wild really. To our knowledge there has never been anything of this sort. Derbies have their regional stars, and there are big single events that draw competitors from all over the country due to their large prize awards, but there has never been a national points series.

Most of the derbies are held in the central part of the country. You can click on the link below to check the schedule. Got the stones to prep a car and compete against the best of the best? If you do, let us know, we’ll send a BangShift.com sticker!
