Obvious Facts About the World: Sky is Blue, Grass is Green, Finns Race Karts On Ice

Finland: That place where racing fans just assume everyone knows how to drive sideways at all times. That may or may not be true in reality, but videos like this one reinforce the notion that everyone in the country can fling any vehicle around any racetrack without drama. If you can watch this onboard footage of 2011 Finnish ice karting champion Ivan Looking driving the studded kart tires off his kart in the dead of Finland’s winter and not want to do this—and probably spinning repeatedly—then you must be in the wrong place.

This looks like a complete riot, even though you’re likely to end up eating ice dust from a Finnish 12-year-old who spends his winters ripping around the local back country after school. From folk racing to the myriad of rally videos with hundreds of fans gathered in the woods to watch race cars, motorsports just seems to be part of the Finnish gene pool.
