Not Patient Enough For The Shelby GT350? Hennessey Has The Solution For You!

Not Patient Enough For The Shelby GT350? Hennessey Has The Solution For You!

It seems that half of what I’ve written this year has the word “Hellcat” in it somewhere, and for good reason: Dodge did exactly what enthusiasts have been begging manufacturers to do for decades, which is to say “screw it”, shove the bean counters into a closet and padlock the door, and go crazy with power. Oh, and make it reasonably affordable. And considering the power league that the Hellcat twins are playing in, that isn’t really a debatable issue, as the cars are the best power per dollar buy on the market. GM hasn’t exactly dropped the ball either, with ZL1, ZR1, Z06, and Z/28 dropping jaws with their on-track performance.

But what about Ford? The S550 Mustang is fresh and new, but the 420hp…well…that seems a little soft. And since it’s going to be a minute before the Shelby appears, if you want to play the stratospheric horsepower numbers game, the only answer right now is to place a call to Hennessey.

According to Hennessey’s web site, for $59,500 on top of the cost of a Mustang GT, Hennessey will add:

Power
• 717 bhp @ 6,600 rpm
• 632 lb-ft torque @ 4,400 rpm

Performance
0-60 mph: 3.6 sec.
¼ mile: 11.2 @ 131 mph

• Throttle Body Upgrade
• Stainless Steel Exhaust System Upgrade
• Upgraded Fuel Injectors
• Upgraded Fuel Pump

• HPE Engine Management Calibration
• Dyno Tuning & Road Testing
• Hennessey Exterior Badging
• HPE700 Exterior Badging
• Supercharged Exterior Badging
• Hennessey Premium Floormats
• Serial-Numbered Dash & Engine Plaques
• 3 Year / 36,000 Mile Limited Warranty

Additional Upgrades

• CarbonAero Front Splitter
• CarbonAero Side Sills
• CarbonAero Rear Diffuser

Wheels & Tires

• Michelin Pilot Super Sport 2 tires

…guess the Texans have taken a bit of an offense with Dodge? Because it looks like they put the big Mopar directly into their crosshairs as they designed the package. While the layout looks good, Hennessey has been the subject of criticism in the past, some of which concerns the reliability of the vehicles. Tread with caution, but it will be interesting to see what comes out of this, especially after seeng what his HPE Camaros and Corvettes have been able to do.

something is not right when a 717 hp car is running an 11.2 at 131. That’s MPH for deep into the 10’s I think.

I don’t really sit at that table so what’s the deal with Hennessey? Their motor work not up to snuff?
