BangShift Project Files: This 1966 Chevy II Narrowly Escaped Being A Parts Car, Now It’s A Daily!

You always hear about the guy who has the hot car from back in the day. The neighbor who has a 1969 SS396 Camaro. The guy who always rolls up to the car show in an immaculate 1970 Duster 340. Everybody has the up-model, but ask people who lived through that era and they will be the first to tell you that for every Hemi car, every SS, every Cobra, there were at least twenty base-model, run of the mill machines that most people used up, threw away, wrecked, converted, or gutted for parts. Finding a six-cylinder, column shift 1971 Camaro is just as rare as finding a Baldwin-Motion car that’s been sitting for thirty years, but guess which one someone will dump time, effort and money by the suitcase-load into?

That’s what makes this 1966 Chevy II all the more unique. It’s nothing special…it’s a gold four-door powered by the 194ci inline-six and a three-on-the-tree manual transmission. This is not a fire-breathing early Nova…this is what was sitting on dealership lots when they were new, selling based upon the merits of good fuel economy, price, and simplicity, the polar opposite to the chrome-laden land barges of just a few years prior. BangShift forum member “leleva” acquired this car after learning of it’s status as a parts car that the previous owner couldn’t bear to part out. It wasn’t complete, and the engine had some issues to attend to, but all things considered, it was a great starting point. No, the six hasn’t been replaced with a V8, and yes, the three-on-the-tree is still there as well. The fuel tank and it’s load of sludge is long gone, replaced with a clean new tank, and there are new fenders in place of the ones that had been removed by the previous owner, and there are no plans to do anything but to keep fixing what’s broken while daily-driving the little sedan. Click the link below and take a look at the Chevy II’s history!

I’d skip looking for a 292, find/build a 250, not too wild. Restore the interior –> because that is what you are looking at most of the time, cuz you’re driving it.
Pop on some hubcaps and go!
