BangShift Project Files: The Ultimate Restoration Project? This 1928 Chevrolet Is Going Under The Knife!

BangShift Project Files: The Ultimate Restoration Project? This 1928 Chevrolet Is Going Under The Knife!

If you roam around the more deserted areas of the American Southwest, there’s a chance that you’ll see a car like this somewhere: pre-war, well-roasted, and mostly just the bones of what used to be. Makes for great yard art, but most of us pretty much write them off as art, never to return to the land of the living. It’s kind of a “let sleeping dogs lie” kind of situation…you don’t go bringing bones back to life, do you?

Resident garage master Jim Forbes has decided to give it a shot. You know Jim, if not for his ’55 Chevrolet or his ’62 Chevy II that made the cover of Hot Rod, for his Drag Week/Drag Weekend antics and his 1959 Edsel LeMons Rally car. This guy stays busy, and he’s one of those few still around who can work with the really old-school stuff without requiring manuals on top of manuals and a prayer to Mr. Goodwrench. What you are looking here is the well-done remains of a 1928 Chevrolet that Forbes dragged off of some ranch land. Most of the mechanical bits are there and complete, so there is a chance that the four-cylinder might wind up in working order…if it doesn’t, it won’t be because of Jim. There isn’t much left of a body to identify, so the sky’s the limit on what it could be. A small pickup would be really cool, but even better is that Forbes is taking this project on at all. Any bets on how soon it will be running?

    Cool. Keep posting updates.

There’s a lot of work ahead with that thing, but it’ll be fun to watch.
