Question of the Day: Are Old War Planes BangShifty?

Obviously we’re an automotive website and there are no plans to chance that focus anytime soon. With that being said, the gearhead universe has all sorts of neat aspects to it that aren’t exactly based on terra firma. Old war planes turn our crank for many of the same reasons old cars do. They were raw, powerful, and required high levels of attention and talent to operate correctly. What’s not to love?

This coming weekend the New England Air Museum is having an “open cockpit” day on Sunday and we’ll be there to check it out. The planes, like the cars we love, represent more than just steel, glass, and rubber. They also represent history, and in the case of vintage war planes, they represent freedom and the costs associated with it.

So here’s the question of the day. Are old planes (war or otherwise) BangShifty or do they fall into the realm of “other”? Be honest! If you don’t give a rip about ’em, say so! If they are, tell us why!
