RacingJunk Find: The Pisano and Matsubara Nostalgia Funny Car

Nostalgia Funny Cars are where it’s at right now in drag racing. There are dozens across the country and they’ve gone from side show to featured attraction with dedicated events happening all over the place. We found one of the coolest examples in the world for sale on RacingJunk.com. It hauls ass, has tons of cool history behind it, and could by yours for a fire sale price.

The Pisano and Matsubara 1974 Chevy Vega is a recreation of the famous machine that Joe Pisano and Sush Matsubara uses to terrorize strips across the country in the mid-1970s. The car was backed by Revell back in the day and became one of their most popular model kits. Because of that, the car has major league name recognition amongst drag racing fans and even people who have been away from the game for a while.

The car has been campaigned by Danny Pisano, the nephew of Joe Pisano, and  a generation behind the four Pisano brothers who were all hot rodders from the get-go.

Equipped with a 6-71 blown, TFX-based Hemi, the car has been down in high five second bracket at nearly 240mph. With some tweaks we think this car could be right in the thick of the action of the Nostalgia Funny Car scene.

It’s weird to call anything priced at $70k a bargain, but for a running car with that famous name down the side? We think so.
