Regular Car Reviews Tells the Bizarre Story of ‘The Dale,’ a Piece of 1970s Automotive Vaporware

Regular Car Reviews has become a bastion of video automotive journalism with the usual cast of Mr. Regular and The Roman giving some facts and opinions on cars from the past that people remember (or forget) for one reason or another. It’s witty and irreverent and often insightful into the culture of car people more than the vehicles discussed. However, on this episode, The Roman gives a detailed history of the bizarre 1970s saga of The Dale, a “three-wheeled car cobbled together from motorcycle parts and frustration,” to quote The Roman.

The Dale was a response to the 1973 fuel crisis and promised to get 70 mpg with a stick price of $2,000 (~$10,000 in today’s money). The Dale, of course, was not the only manufacturer trying to do this, but the story takes a whole lot of unexpected twists with the involvement of entrepreneur Geraldine Carmichael, who tried to sell The Dale under the 20th Century Motor Car Corporation. Don’t take our word for it, though. Check out The Roman telling the epic of The Dale.
