We’re admittedly clumsy. This normally translates itself into minor bloodshed in the shop or worse than that broken or mangled stuff. Have pulled and swapped more than a few transmissions in our gearhead lives, we have lived the nightmare of dropping one that is precariously balanced on top of a normal floor jack before. It sucks beyond words when one slips off and you snap one of the ears off of the bell housing or worse. There are lots of redneck quality solutions to this issue, but TCI has one that is totally pro. They have developed a cool adapter that slips right into the receiver your small jack pad currently sits in and virtually eliminates all of the issues we spoke about above. You’ll have a transmission that is steady and about 100% less prone to fall off the jack as it would be in other situations.
This is a simple and cheap ($49.95) solution to a problem that can be devastatingly expensive. If you have a trans swap in your future, if you are a racer that may have to pull a trans in the pits, or a a gearhead that wanted to be prepared for action when the time comes to pull and install a trans call the boys at TCI and get yourself one of these babies. new? this adapter has been around for at least a decade (the exact same design, though possibly under several other different brand names)… it’s still not the best design, very teeter totter, and get a little trans fluid on it and it becomes a slip ‘n slide… but is just the right dimensions for most trans pans to at least not slip completely off, hanging up on the lips before you see your expensive tranny crack in half as it hits the floor… i put some skateboarder ‘grip tape’ on mine, helps to decrease the slipperiness
