In one of the few instances that the hype actually matched the performance on the track, the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod show in Gainesville was amazing. From close racing and fast qualifying to the historic run made by Jonathan Gray to reset the long standing national record by a bunch, there was lots to talk about. The fact that the Precision Turbo and Engine sponsored Camaro was wearing Mickey Thompson tires was a big deal as the company has supported racers on tires big and small in an amazing way for ages.

If you can believe it, there is a kind of tire war in the pro mod ranks. Lots of competitors enjoy one made by the “purple brand” guys and the others tend to gravitate towards Mickey Thompson products. Gray’s 5.75/258mph blast was the shot heard ’round the world in the pro mod category and we’re guessing that the mark may be in jeopardy when the next race rolls around. Everyone has gotten faster and no one has showed their hand yet.

They have showed the value in good slicks and that big M/T may be on the side of more cars if the records keep falling!

JONATHAN GRAY SETS NATIONAL PRO MOD RECORD ON MICKEY THOMPSON TIRES

Stow, Ohio – March 28, 2016 – Mickey Thompson Pro Mod racer, Jonathan Gray has entered the national Pro Mod record books following the NHRA Mello Yello Gatornationals event.

A former Pro Stock racer, Gray entered the season with the PTE flagship 2014 Pro Mod Chevrolet Camaro built by Larry Jeffers Race Cars. The Camaro, previously driven by Don Walsh Jr. and named the “Best Engineered Car” in Pro Mod, is now racing with Mickey Thompson’s ET Drag “Bubba” tires. Gray achieved a stunning 5.751 elapsed time at 258.02 miles per hour for a new national record.

“Jonathan is a respected Team M/T member, and this was an outstanding racing achievement,” said Tom Kundrik, Motorsports Manager for Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels. “This is the first time a Team M/T racer has set a national Pro Mod record on our ET Drag tires, and we were amazed at Jonathan’s performance.”
