RideTech To Auction The Famed ’33 And A Classic GTO Drop Top At Barrett Jackson 2014

RideTech To Auction The Famed ’33 And A Classic GTO Drop Top At Barrett Jackson 2014

Today must be auction news day, eh? As the title so succinctly states, our pals at RideTech are bringing two cars to the 2014 Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona and one of them is the famed ’33 that Bret Voelkel has terrorized autocrosses and road courses with for a couple of years in a coast to coast fashion. What began life as a Factory Five ’33 coupe evolved into one of the most well known handling hot rods of all time. Using some of the DNA created by the likes of Max Balchowski and others back in the day, Bret and his henchmen at RideTech built one of the coolest corner burners of all time and it was as brutally effective as it was awesome to look at. Both Chad and I have seen and announced events where the car competed and wherever it was, the ’33 was the car that everyone else was gunning for. You already know that it has an awesome and rowdy 427ci Ford small block for power and steamroller tires on the corners. What you may now know is that it has the fit and finish of an exotic car. Seriously. The guys in the RideTech shop that built this thing are some of the most talented craftsmen in the entire industry. Whoever buys this thing (and it is selling…no reserve, baby!) will be getting their hands on one truly awesome hot rod.

The second car coming across the block at Barrett Jackson will be Bret’s wife’s 1971 Pontiac GTO convertible. This is a real 1971 GTO convertible of which less than 700 were made. It has a 400ci Poncho engine with Edelbrock heads and enough power to roast tires for a city block or more. The car is fitting with a full RideTech air suspension and was built back in 2007. Sometimes we get sad when we see people sell stuff because of the circumstances. Oddly, when Bret is selling stuff we know it is to make more room for better, cooler stuff. We’re sad to see these two amazing cars leave the stable but we’re bouncing off the walls to see what shows up next!
