How Successful Is The Hellcat? First Numbers Have Been Announced…

When the Dodge Challenger Hellcat was announced this year, it went without saying that there would be some kind of demand for a car with over 700hp that looked as good as the Challenger, and certainly for a 700+hp car that didn’t cost as much as a very nice house. But the question was, just how many people would be interested in such a car? Would they consider it practical at all? The numbers are starting to come in for the Challenger Hellcat, and to say it’s a runaway hit is an understatement.

According to Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis, over 4,000 cars were ordered immediately after the ordering system went online, and currently the list sits well over 5,000 placed orders. Dealerships are fighting to get cars into the lots. A quick investigation of a few local lots all say that there allotted cars are sold out, they don’t expect any more until at least December, and that, going against Kuniskis’ plan, that Hellcats are being marked up, at least by $10,000. Add in that the Hellcat is one of two Mopars on Consumer Reports’ “Recommended” list (the other being the Dodge Durango) and 2015 is shaping up to be a good year for the Mopar camp. And these are early numbers, at that. Watch and wait, because we expect that the Charger Hellcat will easily pull better sales.

The Hellcat, performance details notwithstanding, has probably been Mopar’s best marketing coup of the last 20 years. If five thousand people were lining up to buy the actual cars, then probably 4-5 times that wandered into a dealership and probably bought something else from the brand.

So …. you actually take FCA’s numbers … be it sales , performance or profit at face value ?

Hell … remind me never to ask y’all for any financial/investment advice

And as to the delusional MOPAR or No Car propaganda up above

Walking would be preferable to driving anything MOPAR has made in since 1970 !

And them Blue Ovals ? Well considering the fact that the Eco Boost Mustang is kicking the crap out of the baseline V8 Challenger …. I’m betting once Ford lets loose with the Big Guns … you MOPAR boy’ll once again be left crying in your Bud Lites

Uh…yeah. Anyhow, from what I personally see, people left-and-right are interested in this car. New Challengers are sweet drivers, and with history-making power it’s tough to resist…I know two guys with newer ones parked among their musclecar collections and I know what both of them are thinking right now…

Of these 5000 i’m guessing 4950 will be garage queens too valuable to drive that still have plastic on the seats and the paper floor mats, The remaining 50 will be thrashed merciless by magazines and tuning comanies and modified quite heavily, crashed and wrecked.
So in 2020 the only way to get one used will be off a collector who is still holding out like the 76 Caddy convertible people till he can get sticker price again.

It should be illegal for dealerships to mark up new cars. As if the Hellcats weren’t already prohibitively expensive for the average buyer. Adding 10 grand to the price of a car, just because there are limited quantities, is simply greedy.
