Termite Express? This 1960 Chevy Truck Was Rebodied In Wood To Promote A Lumber Yard – Now You Can Buy It!

Termite Express? This 1960 Chevy Truck Was Rebodied In Wood To Promote A Lumber Yard – Now You Can Buy It!

The use of wood in the construction of car bodies has been common practice for more than 100 years now. The use of wood as the sole material involved in the construction of a car body is far less common and that’s what makes this homebuilt truck stand out. There was a mini-craze in the 1970s for all wood body cars and when we say “mini” we mean it by the true definition of the word. Looking through the big stacks of magazines from that time period there were a few hot rods and trucks that popped up with full wood construction but this creation looks to be in another class entirely.

Built decades ago in Britt, Iowa as a promotional tool for a lumber yard the truck is actually based off of a 1960 Chevrolet chassis and running gear. The slot mags and the spiffy leather work on the flanks of the machine lead me to believe that this is a 1970s build. Plus, like everything else from the 1970s it has some side pipes on it. That’s the biggest tell of all, right?

Of course one of the large draw backs in the use of wood to build a car body is the complexities involved in creating the flowing compound curves that make car bodies beautiful. The way some builders got around this problem was to forego even attempting to add anything but angles and square shapes. Hence the fenders, hood, and front headlight enclosures. The funny thing is that for this rig to look this good so many years after construction it is a given that the work is top shelf. Things that exist this long prove their quality in longevity and this thing certainly has. The truck has lived a pretty pampered life and with a buy it now price of $3,499 bucks it is kind of tempting, no?

There’s just something so weird about this truck that there’s a couple rays of cool escaping the vortex as well. We’re guessing that everyone else in the world is going to hate the hell out of it. See below in the comments section to judge our premonition.

The least they could do was run skinny military bias-plies and some kind of wire wheels to match the shoes to the “old timey” body style.

Are they sure of ‘1960’? I don’t believe Chevy trucks got 5 lug wheels until 1971, when they were first offered with disc brakes

if anyone buys it, i’ll take that TUFF steering wheel off your hands for a cool $20 bucks! (that one wasn’t available in 1960 either… come to think of it, it wasn’t available on chevys, period!)

wonder what that hog weighs in at….

Few things I dislike more than “custom” cars made of wood….

    S10 Rat Rods come to mind….but I digress…..
