The Art of the Con: Tesla Unveils Sedan to Know-Nothing Media Outlets

Tesla Motors, the wunderkind maker of electric cars (right now only the Tesla Roadster) unveiled its new “flag-ship” model to a horde of journalists on Thursday and managed to brainwash at least CNN that they were actually going to build the car, manufacture it in Southern California, sell it for $57,000 and move 20,000 units a year. Oh yeah, all by 2011.

This from a company who, just a few months ago, dumped a large portion of its workforce and by several accounts is banking on $350 million dollars of government loans that have not been approved as of yet.

But as usual, weenie uninformed reporters listened to the pitch, ate it up because it involved an electric car, and then put forth to the world the insane idea that this car will be selling in volume by 2011. I mean, if they say it, it must be true right?

Read the story and know that PT Barnum would be proud. If you take this information as anything but a thinly veiled dog and pony show to convince the federal government that it deserves the 350 million, you’d be highly qualified to report for the newspapers.

Hit the link to CNN and put the BS filter on full tilt.
