This is the, we hope, rock bottom in the story of the Hack Job General Lee, a 1969 Dodge Charger that had been purchased sight-unseen on the Internet and that has turned into a nightmare matrix of quickie repairs. They speak for themselves, but man, this literally could not get any worse.

The Dukes Charger replica ended up in our buddy Jon’s chassis shop for a simple rollbar job that turned into frame repair, then lots of replacement sheet metal. The last time we saw the car Jon was waiting on some front sheet metal and from there the car was to head over to the body shop to be resprayed and cleaned up. Then the owner decided to have the car sand blasted to just get down to ground zero to see exactly what the condition of the physical steel was.

Long story short, it’s not good. In fact, it’s disastrous. The car is going to be repaired and repainted as the talented body man working on the car has confided in the owner that it’s bad, but not the worst he’s ever seen or worked with.

We literally cannot wait for this car to be rightfully restored and it’s going to be sooner rather than later as the crew is working full bore to repair the hideous work of the past. We’ve already secured a meeting with the owner after the car is complete to show off its new self.

Look at some of this, try to keep your food down, and don’t forget that just three months ago this was a recently painted, bright orange car that looked fantastic in online photos. Makes you think about what’s under your car’s skin doesn’t it?
