Video Review: 7-Second Love Affair

The golden era of Top Fuel racing during the ‘60s is heavily romanticized. Stories from those days just seem too good to be true and even reading period racing newspapers conveys the feeling that it was all a bit tarted up.

We were probably forcing ourselves to believe that line of junk because we are bitter that our birth didn’t happen until two decades later. We missed out on the good stuff and this movie is proof positive.

The 56-minute documentary 7-Second Love Affair follows Rick “The Iceman” Stewart’s quest to own both ends of the national record. As the movie rolls on we learn that Stewart currently holds the elapsed time record but was desperately to own both ends of it.

Neat footage includes Gene Adams tuning the motor in the dragster as well as the pair racing at all the old legendary tracks including Lions. The film looks at both sides of Stewart’s life, that of the racer and that of the “normal guy” X-Ray technician.

The racing footage is nearly priceless, as those old 392s sounded something special when run on a 90-100% load of nitro. Everything about the movie is cool from Stewart’s old Chevy tow truck, to the T-shirts and hats worn by many of the competitors.

For fans of nostalgia drag racing, this is an absolute must own as it takes you places you’d never expect to be taken by an old documentary.
