Bitchin’ Video: Ride Along In a 410 Sprint Car On A Banked 3/8 Mile Oval in Michigan – Ludicrous Speed!

Of all the mighty beasts that roam the circle tracks of America, few have the mystique, raw power, and ability to keep people on the edge of their collective seat like 410ci winged sprint cars. These alcohol swilling, 900hp monsters accelerate off the corners like dragsters, have a tendency of touching wheels and launching skyward, produce the most intoxicating sounds any gearhead would want to hear, and as you’ll see in this video, require huge brass balls to drive.

This video was shot on the side of Derek Snyder’s car while he was racing at Owosso Speedway in Michigan. Owosso has been in business for 72 years under various ownership groups and in various lengths and configurations. It has flip flopped from asphalt to dirt a few times. It has been a quarter mile, a half mile, and now it is a banked three eighth mile course.

As you’ll see in this footage, Snyder starts near the back of the back and picks off the other racers one by one until he is challenging for the lead. What happens next, you’ll have to see, but we were enthralled watching the racing the entire time. The acceleration off the corners is brutal and the proximity of the cars to one another while jockeying for position in corners leads to a couple of breathless moments. As we stated above, wussies and those who lack self confidence need not apply for a driving position. This is wild stuff!
