While we are either freezing our giblets off, digging out of the snow, watching the rain fall by the ton or watching trees and small building getting straight up hammered by the wind…ask someone from Colorado Springs how the weather’s been so far this winter…the Australians have been partying it up at Summernats, the automotive equivalent of a rock music festival at full tilt. It’s a bucket list item for us for all of the right reasons, including car shows, concerts, cruising, and more, but in the end, it’s the Burnout Masters competition that makes Summernats absolutely bonkers. These aren’t just street cars having a bit of fun where the Aussie cops and politicians can’t harass them. These are thousand-horsepower cars annihilating tires faster than most people we know can annihilate a piece of pizza. This is Top Fuel crossed with a SoCal “sideshow” event. This is every tire manufacturer’s ultimate torture test, and it’s as subtle as a pipe bomb. Blowers screaming, engines revving to the stratosphere, and a crowd of manic fans going absolutely berzerk  at the whole of it all contribute to the scene. While there is only one champion, which was Steve Nogas in the “KILLA B” fifth-gen Camaro, there was a whole field vying for the title. Flinty460 caught the top ten competitors on film, and we suspect that a couple of camera lenses are going to have to be deep-cleaned to get the rubber off of them…
