Check Out This Aerial Footage Of A Huge Roll At Rally Zlin…The Roll Cage Works!

The amount of engineering that goes into roll cages for racing vehicle is staggering, and it all boils down to the idea that no matter what happens, the human or humans that are inside of the structure will live through whatever punishment they wind up receiving. Rally racing certainly has plenty of punishment to offer, as we have shown countless times before. Between the flips, jumps, rolls, sudden impacts into objects and bad judgements that put the driver and co-driver into a bad situation, it’s honestly amazing to us that we don’t have a lot to report on in the way of rally crash injuries, which is a testament to the structural rigidity of the roll cages.

The latest big roll came at Barum Czech Rally Zlin, where driver Robert Consani and co-driver Benoit Manzo found themselves going from a hard charge down a lane into a tumble-dryer that at one point in time was shaped like a Citroen DS3. Captured both in the air via helicopter and by fans on the ground, Consani’s wreck is pretty violent, but shortly after the car grinds to a halt, both he and Manzo crawl out of the wreckage, seemingly no worse for the wear.
