Classic Carnage: Nine Minutes Of Old School 1980s and Early 1990s Monster Truck Wreckage

A Christmas tradition that I reveled in as a kid was the reception of Diamond P videos every year from various family members. It literally became a “thing” to sit down the next day and have a movie marathon with my dad as we watched stuff like Decade of Thrills and Shake, Battle, and Roll along with the true classics from the, …And They Walked Away” series. This video is a perfect remedy to fill that gap today because it is non-stop crashing and wrecks from monster truck races in the 1980s and 1990s when the trucks still largely used production steel bodies, the suspension systems were less complicated than some covered wagons, and no one really knew the definition of the term “lift” yet.

As best we know, no one was seriously hurt of killed in these crashes. Many of them are kind of humorous because they result in drivers getting silly with the throttle and simply trying to make their trucks do things that they physically couldn’t. You’ll see more rear ends get spit out, more front ends get busted, and more trucks run out of shutdown in small arenas than you ever have before. Today’s trucks leap and fly like it is no big thing. These old monsters were not equipped for such fun and it clearly shows in the video.

One last thing to consider is that a LOT of the trucks in this video did not have roll bars in the cabs yet. May have the chrome “nef” bar in the bed but when you see some trucks end and end up on the roof, you’ll see what we are talking about. It is amazing more guys didn’t meet their maker in those trucks a couple of decades back!
