Doing it Wrong Video: Parade Lap Spins at the 1992 Indy 500

Doing it Wrong Video: Parade Lap Spins at the 1992 Indy 500

Spinning your race car out on a pace lap is bad. Spinning your car out on a parade lap is way worse. Spinning your car out on the parade lap when you are the pole sitter for the Indy 500? Absolute epic fail. Well we found footage of not only pole sitter Roberto Guerrero spinning out but also Philippe Gache doing the same thing on the same parade lap!

One of the amazing things that many people do not know about this story centers around the car owner. Kenny Bernstein owned this car. Yes, THAT Kenny Bernstein. Think about how bad ass this is. Bernstein has just made drag racing’s first 300mph run, he owned the car that was on the pole at the freaking Indy 500 AND he had a full on NASCAR team as well. It was a different time in racing and one that we’ll not see again but that’s some seriously awesome stuff. Dude must not have slept.

We had a friend spin his race car on the pace lap of a road race we were announcing and cause a big wreck. That was a bad deal, especially because we had a perfect view of the whole disaster. Not that he had an excuse, but for this to happen to pro Indy Car drivers? Amazing!

Try digging into the detail behind the video instead of claiming \”epic fail\”.
Air temp was 48 degrees, wind was blowing at 20+ mph bringing the wind chill for the race at 28 degrees. Yes RG
spun out…..as did 13 other cars that crashed that day due to the cold and no traction. Most if not all yellow restarts resulted in more crashes. Jeff Andretti ended up going into the turn two wall head on and obtained serious lower injuries. It was nor pretty. I should know I sit in the front row.
