It has been like Aussie Week here on BangShift so far! We’ve been running lots of video and content from the land down under and frankly there’s a reason…it is cool stuff! This video shows that they can get as wild as we here in the states can on the strip. We’ve all seen the photos of Larson and Lutz dangling the front wheels through the traps in their un-aerodynamic cars during Drag Week and at other races, but we’ve never quite seen a top end power wheelstand like this one that Frank Mamone pulled at Sydney Dragway in November.
This car has a screw blown 471ci Chevy engine and as you’ll see, it makes PLENTY of suds! The run is shown from behind, looking down track so we can see the car haze the tires on the hit, black track some, and then really get its legs under it. You’ll see the front end come up twice, believe it or not with the most significant time being high enough that the blower hat can be seen from the starting line! It is a good thing that Mamone kept his wits about him and drove the car properly. Landing with the wheel turned, dumping the throttle, or stabbing the brakes at over 200mph would have led to disaster and the complete destruction of his car.
