Dyno Video: Watch This Thunderbird Super Coupe Crank Out 805 Horsepower On The Dyno!

Ok, I promise I’ll lay off of the T-bird kink after this one, but I’m running it for a reason. When the MN12 platform debuted in 1989, it didn’t come with a V8 available. Instead, Thunderbirds and Cougars had to make do with a 3.8L V6. Now, I have experience with the standard-fare 3.8L mill in a 1989 Thunderbird…a friend of mine bought one after we had gotten back from Iraq for a daily beater, a nice car. But we soon learned that her particular car’s thermostat housing/upper radiator hose was straight from the bowels of Hell itself. Yours truly took three steam baths trying to sort that damn car out, and as such, was pleased when the “Thunderbitch” was hauled off to the scrapyard. But there was another variation of that same six-cylinder, and it came in the Super Coupe model. Blown, intercooled, and ready for action, it too came in at 3.8L, but unlike the doggy 140 horsepower N/A motor, the Super Coupe packed in 210 horsepower in stock form, and the rest of the car saw upgrades to back up the sporty pretenses, such as adjustable shocks, 16″ wheels and four-wheel disc brakes. Oh, and did we mention the five-speed manual trans? Yeah, that appeals to us, too.

But what appeals to us more is a Thunderbird that makes more than 210 horsepower…and this one delivers in fine fashion. Olive drab ain’t pretty, but this turbocharger-converted Super Coupe knocks the power figures out of the park. 805 rear-wheel horsepower means that your Terminator Mustang had better have it’s nitrous kit at the ready, lest you wind up explaining to your buddies how your monster Mustang got spanked by a six-cylinder personal luxury car…
