Every Wheelchair Needs A Model Aircraft Jet Engine, And Here’s The Proof!

Finding yourself confined to a wheelchair isn’t the best stroke of luck in the universe. In fact, it can downright suck, but it doesn’t have to. Rob Parsons has proved that you don’t need your feet to drift a car, but what if your tastes in assisted propulsion are a little more…well, unorthodox?

This is a wheelchair with a Behotec jet engine strapped to the underside of the seat. We aren’t for sure which model is sitting underneath the guy’s ass, but they sell a range of turbines meant for model jet aircraft that range from 29 to 50 pounds of thrust. Strapped to the chair, the turbine’s throttle is controlled with a R/C hand controller and the chair moves simply on thrust, with an auxiliary wheel mounted forward of the feet. Starting the turbine looks to be a toasty affair, but once it’s up and running the thrust pushes the wheelchair around nicely. While this is easily the most impractical method of propulsion possible for a wheelchair, this is also the coolest. Pass cars on the street, scare pedestrians and deafen everybody within a city block!

That is the most awesome version of “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” that I’ve seen in a long time.
