Grande Fuego Video: A European Nitrous Pro Mod Explodes and Burns to the Ground at Santa Pod

Another week, another incredible multi-angle set of videos showing a nitrous Pro Mod exploding and burning to the ground. This time, the action comes from historic Santa Pod Raceway in England, where long time Pro Mod competitor Henri Joosten experiences the fury of an uncontrollable, self feeding nitrous fire.

While it may seem like “all of a sudden” there are a rash of big nitrous fires happening lately, we’re guessing it is more a case of the proliferation of video equipment that everyone carries around. Simply put, the same crazy stuff has been happening, but now there are 50 people at the track filming it.

The first video shows the explosion from the front, and the ones following show it from different angles. It appears that the intake manifold gets blown off, leading to a situation where the nitrous and fuel are flowing unchecked. We cannot tell if one of the safety guys (the second one on the scene) killed the power on the way by the back of the car). It is wild how the fire is seemingly killed and then roars back to a level no man or extinguisher can stop.

I don’t know what feeds the fire, is it electric fuel pumps? If so, why are they not wired to kill with a loss of oil pressure? Doesn’t Jegs even sell a kit for that?

Second video is mine. What amazed me was the fire crew spraying water on the fire! Maybe foam or powder would be better. Funny how the fire truck arrived at the end.

I was there the fire crew did a great job with a very strong head wind feeding the fire aswell as the nos and fuel. The main thing Henri Joosten got out fast and is ok. What a shame about the car but the British weather didnt help!

Same olld thing. Poor selection of components cheap valves, bad installation. Bet there is no onboard fire suppression,.Installationsshould be using industrial products and mehtods for high pressure gas and cryogenic systems . You always plumb high pressure liquied and gaseous cylinders with excess flow valves, plus valves at the cylinder that can be shut down.
No rules – then it is fools with tools.
