We’ve featured vintage film from the old “Car and Track” show before, but this could be the coolest ever for a variety of reasons. As usual, Bud Lindemann leads us off on the adventure. This video features the technical marvel that was the new Chevy Vega. Unfortunately a couple of the touted features of the car, especially the aluminum block, would lead to it having a horrific reputation.
It is truly cool to see the engines being assembled, the pistons being machined, and a running example on the test stand. For the seconds that it is shown, the testing engine looks to be running mint. Who knows what happened when the camera left!
The early Vegas were great looking pieces and they make great drag cars and V8 swap candidates. As daily transportation though, they didn’t do themselves any favors.
This is a great look into the development and creation of the Vega!
