Historic Drag Video: A Trifecta of Great Footage From Green Valley Raceway

Green Valley Raceway was located in Smithfield, Texas, and operated from 1960-1986. The track was owned and operated by Bill Hielscher, the drag racer that most knew as “Mr. Bardahl” as he was backed by the Bardahl company and featured in its ads. We found a series of three awesome videos from the track, circa the mid-1960s.

The facility looks pretty cool in the below videos. It is large and wide and looks the part of a major league 1960s facility. The track was under the AHRA sanction all the way through 1977 when it switched to NHRA, where it stayed for the remainder of its days. Evel Knievel jumped 11 Mack trucks there in 1974 and the event was covered by ABC’s Wide World of Sports.

The below three videos come from a mid-1960s AHRA event. There are big names here, like gasser legends KS Pittman and Big John Mazmanian. This is great stuff!
