American and Australians are kindred hot rodding spirits and this totally awesome early 1960s drag racing video from Oz proves it. Shot at two drag strips, Pakenham and Riverside, you’ll see stuff that looks very familiar, aside from the guy at the wheel sitting on the wrong side. Our favorite part is the footage from Pakenham at the beginning of the video. 

The strip at Pakenham had a concrete launch pad (for the first few feet) and then transitioned to dirt for the rest of the way down. When modern racers complain about traction at their local drag strip, the manager should have this video on the ready. The guys racing in the video look like they are having far too good a time at this race!
