Of all the race car videos we have ever posted before that involved fire, this one takes the cake for heart stopping terror. Why? Well as you’ll see the driver is piloting some sort of circle track machine…we’re guessing a modified. Almost immediately in the video the car is spun sideways and then rolls up onto its side. To us, this is where the scary begins. You can see fuel running out from under the hood and after a short time you can see a puddle starting to run from the rear of the car towards the front. At that point you just know that this is not going to end nicely.

The driver remains in his harness as safety workers arrive and quickly assess the situation. The crew decides to roll the car back onto its wheels do the driver can unstrap and get out. This is where it all goes very wrong. As the car is about half way through being turned over, it absolutely erupts in flames with all of the spilled fuel ignition in a fury. Within seconds the car is filled with a raging inferno as you can hear, but no longer see the driver unbuckling to get out. Why can’t you see him? He’s literally engulfed in a sarcophagus of fire.

We have followed up on this and learned that the driver was OK and was protected by his helmet, gloves, fire suit, and fire boots. There are people that want to break the chops of all the various racing organizations over how much equipment costs and what is required, but if this had been even 20 years ago, the driver in this video probably would have suffered fatal or debilitating burns over the vast majority of his body. As best we know now, he was not too badly singed and is no longer under hospital care.
