This video is heading around the internet like wildfire and for good reason. It features a 100% scratch built 45cc V8 engine that is electronically fuel injected. If that isn’t awesome enough, the dude that built the thing decided to ramp the cool factor up by making his own TPI style intake manifold to top this mini-mill. The engine seems to be themed off of the cool LT5 engine used in the C4 generation ZR1 Corvettes. It has the dual overhead cams, the same style valve covers, etc. The little bastard sounds great too. As you will see in the video, the builder “whacks” the throttle a couple of times and the little mill buzzes happily along. Apparently all of the machining work was done on a manual Bridgeport and an old (like nearly 100 years) lathe. Think about that when you see some of the detail shots, especially when you look at the runners for that TPI style intake manifold. How neat is that?! Also cool is the fact that the dude used a fuel injector from a Fiat Punto to feel the engine and that injector has MegaSquirt brains firing it. There’s even some sort of teeny-weenie TPS on the throttle butterfly shaft. Just awesome and 100% BangShift approved!
Here’s what the builder said about the engine in the video’s description –
Scratch built 45cc V8 with Megasquirt MS2 fuel injection.made in the shed with an old manual Bridgeport mill and a 95 year old lathe. Single fuel injector made from Punto injector internals. Pressurised oil system, drilled crank, alloy block, cast iron wet liners, vernier cam pulleys, Walbro fuel pump, tungsten alloy flywheel, bead blasted and anodised finish, throttle pos sensor on butterfly shaft, 24tooth trigger wheel for megasquirt.

I always love these little engines that are not your standard fare R/ C engine.I wonder how much power it makes.1 h.p. maybe?
Probably between 2.5-3hp. the 49CC scooters make about 3.3-4hp
That’s totally awesome!
I’d rather hear it with open headers:):)
that guy needs to get a hobby
that guy apperently has a hobby
Obviously he has an awesome hobby by the results of this video.
that IS his hobby…………..
that’s just too awesome. But seriously dude, uncork the headers!
needs more cam, lol.
the wonders of minatures
I bet this engine puts out closer to 6-8 hp. Just like a 5.0L V-8 puts out more than a 5.0L V-6 in most cases. The more cylinders, the more hp for the displacement if everything else is the same.
I want one for my lawnmower!
Looks like he only whacked it to a little over 5 grand. Something that small should scream with F1 revs.
Totally awesome. Open the exhaust up
A TPI intake? It will run out of breath at 4500 RPM! At least do an LT1 intake.
Still more hp than a built Honda.
i was waiting for someone to say something about a honda….
Can I get one for my R/C car? That’s the greatest little thing I’ve seen in a long time.
OK, stupid question, How do the cams stay in time if the belt drive is not a cogged-style belt? I know it is small and light / little resistance but there is no cam timing?!?!? Please no snarky answers, just an observation…
Ok, take it back – just reviewed the last 5 seconds of video with the engine shut down – cogged belt
what i would like to know is how did he do the ignition spark plugs and all
For those interested, here is the build log on this little motor.

Would like to have one, to put with other model in collection
Based on an LT-5? It is based on the L98.
