“It All Started Fifty Years Ago…”: The Owner Of This Lancia Has Stories Worth Listening To!

For once, do not focus on the car. If you haven’t seen a Lancia Delta Integrale, here’s a quick rundown for you: Lancia’s last great rally car, the Delta, had to make some changes in order to make the adjustment from the defunct Group B rally class to the new Group A system. The Delta Integrale, in turn, became a road car. It wasn’t a fire-breather, but rather a sporty, four-wheel-drive hatch that could, if need be, make things exciting. This particular Lancia is actually pretty subtle, and that isn’t necessarily an accident. The owner’s name is Martin Middleton, and to say that he’s got a storied history is only scratching the surface of what has taken place ever since he started his apprenticeship at the Longbridge Austin assembly plant. He has motorsports in his veins, and he has personal letters from Juan Manuel Fangio from when he helped open the Museo Juan Manuel Fangio in 1986. He’s worked in the company of the legends, and he’s worked with the everyday man via his shop in England. You’d never know that this older gentleman had such a storied life until you saw the rows of manuals, the clean shop, or asked questions that would get him to open up. There’s quite a bit of that in many regards…the young and the old not talking. It’s a bit of a shame, because the young would be in awe if they only knew what the older individual has done in their life…
