Too Loud? Not Unless You Blow The Airbags In Your Camaro ZL1!

Too Loud? Not Unless You Blow The Airbags In Your Camaro ZL1!

You ever make a tweak or a modificaton, and later wonder if you’ve done something that will invariably cause the car to fall apart all around you like the Bluesmobile? You know how it goes: stock, it’s the perfect car, but once the wrenches come out and things start getting messed with, suddenly there’s a new surprise around every corner. Messed with timing? Great…now you’ll spend a week getting everything back in order. Brakes? Now you’ve got that squeak when you stop that is like nails on a chalkboard.

By contrast, putting on dump pipes should be pretty straightforward: you put them on, rig them so they are loud or soft, based on your preference, and the only thing you’ll have to worry about is whether or not the local constabulary has issues with a “deep, throaty rumble”. And on older machines, that’s true. But for this YouTuber, that wasn’t the case. This is GuitarmageddonZL1, and he’s notable for getting the first delivered automatic ZL1 sixth-gen car. And he’s been quick to mess with it, as the seats, cage and other add-ons attest to. Dump pipes are, at this point, kid’s play for the ZL1. They do make a great sound, though…hit the button and the car makes a joyous noise. Pin the throttle and let that engine sing for a bit, and watch the side curtain airbags pop like popcorn.

Normally, when the airbags deploy, OnStar gets notified and calls in to check on you to make sure you are ok. Since the steering wheel and passenger dash airbag didn’t blow, we have to assume that OnStar didn’t get a call…right?

Language warning!

I honk it has more to due with the exhaust resonance, rather then the noise itself.

Should have just used the diverter to just loop around the muffs and then back into the tailpipes . Loud is fine but I wouldn’t want it under me ! Seriously, that will cause hearing damage . My vette has a small cat on each side and a shared resonator before it splits again and goes out the back with no muffs and that is plenty for no ear plugs .

Who leaves the air bags in a car after the roll bar or cage is installed? Counter intuitive?
