Manifolds or Headers? Engine Masters Tests The Difference Between The Two!

Manifolds or Headers? Engine Masters Tests The Difference Between The Two!

Ah, the fun part of the exhaust: the upper end. The knee-jerk response is always “headers!”…whatever fits in your ride, go with headers and you’ll be happy. But is it the most solid choice, and is it worth the money you’ll spend? If you have some piece of early 1980s junk, of course you jump for the headers and without question get major gains. But what about the newer stuff, where even the stock junk is pretty decent? The guys at Engine Masters are giving it a shot using a borrowed 6.0 LS-style engine and a bunch of Hookers…headers and manifolds, not the kind we are sure the guys would rather be playing with. There isn’t a question of whether or not headers will make more power. The question is whether or not it’s worth the cost…and that’s a smarter approach to buying parts, right?

I think when fans were asking for this test, they were thinking aftermarket headers..
I think they were more thinking the oem stockers, put on the 6.0 truck and the f body ones/etc..
      not the aftermarket ones.. ..

Your post, sense it does not make.

The hooker manifolds are a good representation of stock manifolds.

The only way you people will ever be happy is if they test every manifold vs every header ever made for every vehicle ever built.

Welp, the hooker iron manifolds are not like the oem ones,
You see, the o.e.m. come on the take out engine..
As part of the engine cost..
Most want to know what they are giving up, running the manifolds that came with their junkyard take out..
hooker iron 479.95 msrp 431.95 out the door..
if they don’t add anything over the stockers that cost nada ‘cuz it was bolted to the engine..
it would be a waste of money, it has nothing to do with your ” you people will never be happy” it has to do with spending funds were it’s needed, not just blind faith that the hooker iron will be worth the 431 bones….
Ya it’s great that hooker is making them and not everyone wants to run rusty stockers, but I think when the fans asked for this test it was to test the oem iron,, not fancy new ones..

they always manage to screw up some test param like here, it would have been more interesting with the same collector size, not just whatever the episodes vendor stocks (where was a factory manifold?) or keeping lift at the valve the same when comparing flat tappet and roller cams.
