The machines that prowl the motorways of Sweden are legendary, and the scenario behind races like the Birka Cup show why no-prep racing and street racing have the following that they do. Birka Cup is run in the Swedish style: a crowd blocks off a section of motorway, one or two races are run and the cars are required to drive from place to place…no trailers allowed. So seeing a twin-turbo Opel, a Volvo with a Rat motor under the hood or a nitrous-huffing, supercharged Mustang II cruising down the road shouldn’t be that big of a shock. In fact, that Mustang might be the finest example we’ve seen of the Deuce in quite some time.
It’s not the safest setup ever, and there’s no way it’s legal, but racing takes on many forms, and around Stockholm this is how it gets done!
I see the Rutebakers have been infected with the Chevy virus. As per usual – no imagination, no use of domestic motors. Volvo have the T5 5-cylinder turbo motor and even a V8 and I’m sure that Ford V8s are available in Sweden.
Like I could give a damn….
Can somebody explain to me why line locks don’t get used for burnouts? 10 guys trying to hold the car back looks pretty sketchy…
Oh and Geordie? Dude, a 5 cyl Volvo motor is going to be a better alternative than a big block with turbo’s or other power adders… really?
I would like to ask you ( and I’m sure many others would like to know) why do you hate Chevs like you do? I’m a Ford guy but can appreciate power in any form from any manufacturer…I’d dearly love to know what in your past has caused this aversion….
I hate Chevrolet because they sponsor Manchester United…..
Hahahahahahaha :).
