Best Of 2015: Plowing Snow Like A Boss Using An Old Honda Three-Wheeler!

Best Of 2015: Plowing Snow Like A Boss Using An Old Honda Three-Wheeler!

A fairly hidden fact is that before I got deep into cars I was deeper into bikes and trikes. I loved my dirt bikes, but without question the one ride that I adored above all others were early 1980s Honda 200 three-wheelers. I had both the pull-start and electric start versions and I did just about everything you could do with one…including running myself over, having it land on me, and dirt-road drifting. One thing I never did do was plow snow with one. Sure, it snows in western Washington, but compared to what Brian is facing right about now, it’s child’s play.

Having lived in areas where snow does fall in good amounts, I can tell you first-hand that shoveling snow sucks out loud. This guy in New York has the right idea: he owns a Honda trike that came with a factory snowplow option, and he wastes no time putting the trike to use. How can you lose? You’re out playing in the snow with your ATV, and you’re getting work done at the same time. It isn’t a novel idea, but it’s an awesome one. If that isn’t a freaking win-win, I don’t know what is.

I’d had one of those growing up, too. A hand-me-down from my Grandad after it had nearly killed him.
It was clapped out beyond all reckoning, I think the brake handles were old screwdrivers and the needle on the carb was blunted. It was as fun to drive around in as the day is long.

One time the carb flooded out on a nearby logging road, and Dad and I had to rescue it with his Ranger. Tow chains to the front crossbar and the rear bumper of the truck. Dad drove the truck and I had to pilot the trike as it tagged along. Pretty damn scary when you’re twelve or thirteen.

I had one too when I was a kid. In fact i made a plow that attached to the forks. It plowed real well in a straight line, didn’t turn worth a crap. Luckily my driveway was a straight shot. This was my response to my father telling me that I owned the driveway shoveling duties now. LOL
