Screw You, Gravity: Watch MotoGP Champ Marc Marquez Blast Up The Austrian Alps On His Race Bike!

Marc Marquez isn’t just the MotoGP champion…he’s just about mental when it comes to his desire to be the winner. He first popped up on our radar in 2015…when his Repsol Honda race bike decided to throw a fit during qualifying with only minutes left, instead of limping the bike back to the pits or risking the engine, Marquez parked the bike along the pit wall, jumped the wall, sprinted a quarter-mile back to get on a backup bike, and proceeded to lap the Circuit of the Americas as if the devil himself was on his tail, pitchfork in hand. The guy is legit. And possibly insane…that is one of his Honda RC213V race bikes being fitted with seriously studded tires, and that is a ton of snow. What gives? This is the Austrian Alps…specifically, this is the Hahnenkamm, a mountain near Tyrol, Austria, that is famous (infamous?) for it’s downhill slopes. We aren’t 100% if this is the infamous Strief (streak) course from downhill skiing competitions, but does it really matter? The dude is taking a race bike meant to carve corners like Grandpa carves the turkey at Thanksgiving and is riding up the side of a mountain with it, with the only major change being tires that are designed to rip through just about anything that has the luck of being underneath them…snow, earth, a wayward leg…whatever. One screwup and the chances of Marquez returning to the bottom of the slope as a snowball are pretty high.
