Best Of 2014: SNL’s Series of Lincoln Parody Ads Starring Jim Carey Are Hilarious And True

Best Of 2014: SNL’s Series of Lincoln Parody Ads Starring Jim Carey Are Hilarious And True

Saturday Night Live is the latest entity to jump on the horrendously bad advertising campaigns that Lincoln has been embarking on with the parody ads that they made and showed last weekend. Featuring Jim Carey doing his damnedest Matthew McConaughey impression as he slowly drives around, talks nonsense, rolls boogers between his fingers, runs a guy over, and gets yelled at by his kids for “going like five miles an hour.” Chad was so freaked out by the ads he ripped off an editorial about it a while back and the rest of the world has been about as mystified by them because they make about as much sense as a David Lynch film.

Can you imagine being the ad agency on this project? Your brilliant idea has now become a large enough joke in popular culture to get parodied on one of the country’s most popular shows. The thing that struck us is that as much as it is a parody of Matthew McConaughey, it is a parody about the whole situation happening around him is well. The weird talking, the slow driving, and all of it. This video is all of the ads in the series that ran throughout the show last weekend. In our opinion, some of the finest and funniest stuff that’s ever been shown on SNL over the years have been the parody ads. From the fake beer and car commercials, to stuff like the “crotch bat” and others, the well produced fake advertising has largely been fantastic.

So in the end, if you believe in the old adage that there’s “no such thing as bad publicity” Lincoln score big here. We tend to believe in the old adage of, “You never want to be a national joke and bleeding tons of money while trying to figure out a brand identity while your parent company’s patience wears thin of the massive loses.” That’s just us though.

The SNL clip must be very serious as I only get the following phrase:”The uploader has not made this video available in your country”
