THE PARTING SHIFT: A SUPER STOCK 289CI 1965 MUSTANG BUZZSAW!

It has been weeks since we last ran the weekly homage to manual transmission prowess called, “The Parting Shift”. There have been shows, live broadcasts, and holiday weekends in the way but consider us back on track with this bitchin’ in-car video of Bobby Fazio’s 1965 SS/L Mustang that packs a four speed. If you are not familiar with the classification system in Super Stock, an easy rule of thumb to use when looking at the letter designation of the car is that the further along it is in the alphabet, the smaller the motor is.

Since this baby is an SS/L car, we can say with confidence that it has the little 289ci V8 that put the Mustang on the map in the first place. How does one make power with less than 300ci? You wind that little bastard to the moon, that’s how. Regardless of your brand loyalty, hearing this car screaming (literally!) through the traps in fourth gear is old time hot roddy religion. It is a sound that speaks to every BangShifter out there!

Fazio is no slouch as you’ll see and he actually uses the clutch for each gear change, which is technically the way the rules say it has to be done. Not that anyone in drag racing would ever violate the rules. Ha!

Press play below and watch Bobby Fazio take a mean little Mustang down the strip…kicking and screaming!
