The Parting Shift: Working the Tree Mounted Shifter in a Sweet 1961 Galaxie

The Parting Shift: Working the Tree Mounted Shifter in a Sweet 1961 Galaxie

It has been a long time since we featured someone making a three on the tree shifter work. In this case the car is an awesome 1961 Galaxie with a 390 that has been fortified with factory hi-po parts. The car gets a good work out and even chirps the tires on the one-two shift.

Crank the speakers because it sounds pretty good when the driver is laying into it. Also, when the guy decides to treat the car like an old police cruiser and make some high speed turns, the tires scream for mercy. High speed chases are dangerous as hell today, back then we shudder to think at how many of them ended up with people being scraped up with snow shovels and squeegees.

Floor shifters rendered the column mounted shifter gauche. Despite the obvious disadvantages in a racing situation, it would still be pretty bitchin’ to have a car with this setup to cruise.
