This Guy Wants To Hemi-Swap This AMC Hornet, But First Wants To Pump Nitrous Through It…Finnegan Can Help With That!

This Guy Wants To Hemi-Swap This AMC Hornet, But First Wants To Pump Nitrous Through It…Finnegan Can Help With That!

It’s a faded green American Motors project in Finnegan’s garage…but calm down, it’s not the infamous Gremmie. No, this is a 1972 AMC Hornet Sportabout wagon, chock full of inline six. It belongs to Jacob Davis, who has great big plans for the Hornet which include a Gen 3 Hemi swap, but there is an object in the way…that 258 cubic inch six-cylinder. Normally, the best advice anyone could give a friend in this position is to hurry up and yank out the six, but Jacob wants to take care of the buzzin’ dozen the right way: with enough nitrous to keep a dentist in practice for a couple of years. Ok, we can dig that…with a known quarter mile time of 19.02 seconds at seventy-something miles per hour, the Hornet is drag-ass slow and needs any kind of power increase it can get, and it will be interesting to see just how much laughing gas the 258 will take before it commits hara-kiri. This will be a multi-part project, starting with the installation of an O2 sensor and a tachometer. The plan is to blow up the six, but they want it to live for at least a little bit before going for the execution. It’s also a way to test Jacob’s parking-lot carb rebuild that was done on Power Tour…

Oh, nooo, no turd, this is going to be a sweet car. Love the small-bumper Sportabouts, there is actually a lot that can be done with this.
