This Twin Turbo 292ci Y-Block Powered 1962 Ford F100 Makes 721hp At The Tire And Looks Beastly On The Dyno

A year or so ago I made a sideways comment about Y-Block Ford engines and their ability to make power, which thoroughly pissed of the Y-Block community. The hate came in from all sides and quickly I was forced to eat my words without even having time to put catsup on ’em. Turns out there are guys out there making HUGE power with the engine that succeeded the flathead in Ford’s V8 role. We’ve run some videos showing this truck before but we’re running this new video because (a) you have never seen it before and (b) because it shows this truck strapped to a chassis dyno making 721 freaking horsepower to the tire! The black truck looks like it is trying to rip itself clean off the rollers when the turbos spool and the the loud pedal hit the floorboards.

The video details the engine and the truck, then shows a dyno pull being made at about 1:45 and then shows the dyno sheet. The engine has FAST EFI throttle body, a Holley 950 Commander EFI controller, a stock iron block, a stock forged steel crank, Scat H-beam rods, STOCK IRON HEADS (EGADS!), and E85 is the drink of choice for the mill. There’s no denying that the Y-Block is an alternative engine, but holy smokes, who’d a thunk that one can make nearly 900hp at the crank on the stock heads. Chad ran into these guys at dinner last night and was told that after making this big steam the truck you see here was wrecked at the drags and the engine now lives in a later model Ford F150 and will be prowling the streets and strips when the glaciersย recedeย in the Dakotas this spring.

Dare to be different and dare to kick some serious ass!

Skip to 1:50 for the dyno pull if that’s all you want to see.

No video, for what that’s worth?

That engine design didn’t have a lot going for it, ‘specially the intake port arrangement.

    I’m skeptical…
