…or it won’t, either way I’m good with it. I have to thank BangShift reader Jason Reinert for sending me the link to this video in an email entitled, “Holy crap you will love this”. Normally when an email with that title arrives, I have to delete it because it contains some sort of inappropriate content that would land me in jail, but for whatever reason, I trusted Jason’s instincts and he was right. This promotional video for the 2014 Claas Xerion tractor which is made in Germany was spot on. I loved every damned second of it and the machine itself is a marvel of modern engineering that should impress you as well. Why? First there is the overall look. With four huge tires and four wheel drive the thing looks ready to romp and stomp over whatever terrain faces it, secondly you’ll see the mondo machine dragging plows through fields, pushing stuff with a dozer blade, and generally conquering the Earth. The truly jaw dropping moment in the video comes when the cab of the tractor elevates, rotates 180-degrees and then sets itself back down and the operator drives it away. Holy smokes that is awesome.

My affection for the yeoman tractor has long been known on BangShift. In fact, Chad and I are at a media conference in California this week and one meeting with a parts manufacturer yesterday began with an employee of said manufacturer saying, “Ok, I have to admit that I look at every tractor post you put up…” That made my little heart sing inside my chest. The reality is that in today’s world we don’t eat without the machines made by Caterpillar, John Deere, Class, and others. They are responsible for creating the conditions that our food grows in. They’re also marvels of modern engineering with powerful and efficient diesel engines, torque for days (this particular Claas is available with a diesel grinding out more than 1,000 lb/ft just above idle), and operational flexibility like no other machines on Earth.

Even if you don’t like or care about tractors, as a gearhead it is impossible to look at this Claas Xerion tractor and not be impressed with it. Don’t believe me? Watch the video and see it for yourself!

I love the tractor and REALLY love the sentiments expressed in the commercial. If you grew up in farm country, tractors are the most obvious indicator of the changing technologies. When I was a kid in the 60’s one of my 5th grade classmates’ Dad bought a John Deere 4020 with about 100 HP. He got a lot of flack about “just wanting to have the biggest tractor around”. 50 years later a 4020 is hardly big enough to rake hay with. THIS tractor is just awesome. Goes to show that maybe the guys that went to work building farm equipment after engineering school might have picked the more entertaining job…

Cool tractor but I see a lot of things to go wrong. Working around Daimler/Freightliners everyday, I have to say I’m not impressed with German engineering.

Scooterz82 I have to agree, mostly due to too many things have gone electronic and computer controled, everything looks great on the drawing board then totally sucks in real world application, I see this in all brands.
