This Video To Introduce The 2015 Indian Scout Motorcycle Calls Back On The Company’s History And Focuses Around The Wall Of Death

The Indian Motorcycle company’s legend was built between the years of 1901 and 1953 when the first iteration of the company built some of the most romanticized and (now) valuable motorcycles in the world. Indian was a huge company at its height and was actually the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world for a few years. Their machines won races like the Isle of Man TT, they were used by the military and police extensively, they battled with Harley-Davidson and the dozens of other companies that were selling motorcycles in the first half of the 20th century. The company went bankrupt in 1953 and things have been kind of weird since then.

There have been multiple attempts to revive the Indian name but all of them have ended in failure. Those efforts were usually boutique style operations selling very highly priced “Indian” branded motorcycles. The vaunted name is now held by the Polaris company and frankly that’s the best possible thing that could have happened to it. With Polaris being a large and diversified outfit we’re feeling like they have the cash and the desire to really establish the name again. The Indian bikes still skew toward the higher end park of the market and they look like it. We’re not diehard bike guys around here but these things look awesome. They have a 100hp engine and between the styling the and power, we’re thinking that they are keeping up with the history of the brand name perfectly.

This video struck us as awesome because it uses the famed “wall of death” motorcycle thrill act to talk about the history and prowess of 2015 Indian Scout. You’ll see some vintage Indians, some old school footage, and a lot of footage of the new bikes, along with the one that was specially built as a wall of death performer. The red/white/blue paint scheme on that bike is really awesome, as is the whole attitude of the machine.

We dig it and we dig the fact that there are cool Indian motorcycles for sale these days. What do you think?

The heritage is cool. The video is cool. The bike, not so much. It’s built in the standard Victory style which isn’t a basic enough design, in my opinion.

Wondering if the size is similar to a 1200 Sportster. The power is roughly double. I like it… A lot. Wonder if there is a 2 up seat.

The Scout does have more power but isn’t even close to double.
      2014 Sportster 1200 – 67.7hp / 70.7tq
      2015 Indian Scout – 100hp / 72.2tq

Saw that group of guys performing at the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid Ohio a few weeks ago. They were fantastic and the bikes they used were stunning in person. The red and black Indian he was riding is the oldest performing stunt motorcycle in existence, its been performing since 1926 if I remember correctly. The guy riding it with no hands really has some talent and huge stones! Neat to see Indian use them to promote their new model.
