Video: Lunatic in Vermont Backflips a Monster Truck

The Vermonster 4×4 Festival up in Vermont is full of all kinds of neat stuff. There’s tuff truck racing, mud bogs, and the big payoff: monster truck action. Of course, the normal stuff for the monster trucks is crushing and jumping over lines of junk cars. But here’s video of a monster truck at the show that completed a stunt that has apparently never been done before: A freakin’ backflip!

Driver Larry Quick in his fastback Mustang bodied monster truck called Ghost Ryder did the stunt, and has pulled it off a couple more times since the Vermont event. It’s pretty amazing when you think about it. That’s a truck that weighs close to, or maybe more than, 10,000 pounds and that has tires standing 66 inches tall on all four corners.

It appears that either a tire bead blew out or a hydraulic steeting line came loose on the landing, as there is a quick spray of something as the rear wheels touch down. The rear steering is obviously fubar as well.

Here’s an amazing video of the feat, followed by some significant failures of the past and one incredible front-flip that you must watch.

We wonder what Travis Pastrana thinks about this. See his attempt here:

And what about Rhys Millen? Check him out:

Even more failed attempts:

Personally, we may be most impressed by this one. Jump to 1:00:

But when it comes down to it, this guy owns all:
